Year 2 - Month Five & Six: Consistent

Hello everyone! Sorry for not being more updated on this site! Its been about 1.5 months since I last updated y'all but honestly nothing has changed since.

Things at school have been going well and the students English has also been improving. The biggest difference I see is their confidence. This was the one aspect that I was hoping to make the biggest impact in and I’m happy to see that it has changed for some students. Even though their English may not be fluent, they are still trying to speak and making an effort which is all I could ask for. It really is going to be hard to say goodbye to my students as I have grown to love them but I’m also happy that I get this experience and can make an impact on them.

Besides school, I’ve been doing my daily boxing and BJJ classes. My BJJ has improved since I last began six weeks ago. I have learned many things and now know how to do a choke hold, arm bar and ankle lock. Sparing in BJJ is still a bit difficult for me as I’m not super advanced but it still has been fun. I finally got my first couple of tap outs using the choke holds and it made me happy to see that I’ve put the skills I’ve learned into sparring matches. I hope to continue BJJ once I’m back in the states!

With traveling, I actually haven’t been to any new cities. I’ve mainly stuck to Busan, Changwon, and Seoul. This year, my need for traveling and exploring new cities in Korea has declined a bit but I am still exploring more about the cities that I have been to. I think that knowing this will be my last year, I’ve been trying to make a point of putting energy into the things that I truly enjoy and getting the most out of this year. Overall, these past couple of months have just been me cruising and living a normal life while abroad.

Anyhow, I’m just about to go on summer break and can’t wait! I’m hosting a three day English camp where I mainly created all of the activities and lessons. I’m hoping my students enjoy this as there was a lot of effort that went into this! During summer break, I will be traveling to Thailand for two weeks! I’m mainly traveling to Thailand to partake in a Muay Thai training and for the FOOD. I’m so so excited to eat all of the fresh fruit (lychees, mangosteens, mangoes and more!) I will be in Phuket, Thailand the entire trip and will be going with a Fulbright friend who also does BJJ. The Muay Thai training will probably be intense but I’m so excited to learn a new form of MMA and hoping I can integrate this into my BJJ and boxing/kickboxing skill sets! After Thailand, I still have about two more weeks of summer break in which I’ll be spending time with my host family, friends and school teachers. I have offered to make a couple of my school teacher friends an American meal and they have been so excited for this. I’m still thinking of what to make so if you have any ideas, I would love to hear them! Well, that is all for now! I will write a separate post about my summer break adventures! Thank you everyone and I hope all of y’all are doing well and staying safe! Goodbye for now!
